The Beach Babe’s Shopping List
The summer months mean it's time to get your bronze on. And for those of us who were born beyond pale that means a trip to the drug store, not the actual beach. Here's my list of must have products for skin and hair to give you that gently sun kissed look.
Charlotte Tilbury “Super Model Body” – This all over body shimmer rolls on to give a perfectly subtle glow without being sticky. Charlotte Tilbury is the British make up artist to the stars and her cosmetics line has recently come to Holt Renfrew. (It’s also available online at Netaporter.)
Oribe “Dry Texturizing Spray” – This is is one of the best hair products I’ve come across in years. Acting as both a dry shampoo and a volume booster it extends the life of your blow-dry and helps create just the right amount of windswept.
St. Tropez “Express” – I never stop testing self tanners and this one gets top marks. It’s tinted, which makes application easy. It also means you get immediate colour. Tan appears in just an hour and once you rinse off it’s odourless. An application glove is sold separately but I never bother with that and just wash my hands immediately after applying.
Skinceuticals “Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50” – Because you don’t want to look like you actually spend all your time at the beach. This broad spectrum sunscreen for the face is tinted so it does double duty as a BB cream. Skinceuticals isn’t cheap (the sunscreen is about $40) but it is widely agreed to be among the best skin care lines on the market.
Coconut Oil – Having tried just about every hair mask out there, let me save you the time and expense. Just go to your kitchen cupboard and grab the coconut oil. (I know it’s there because you’re putting it in your smoothies, right?) Apply a couple of big dollops to dry hair and comb through. Leave it on for at least an hour (or overnight) then shampoo and condition as usual. Sun damaged hair will be smoother and softer.
